Communications & Signals
- Do you have a mesh network?
No, we use business channel partners utilize mesh technology.
- How many times can mesh hop and how far can it go?
Under ideal conditions, mesh can hop up to 1 mile.
- Can you do ganged metering?
This is currently under development.
- Will your disconnect work with power line carrier?
Our AMD disconnect operates via the analog cellular control channel. It can perform disconnection without the need for a power line carrier infrastructure.
- Can you use any computer for access?
Any internet-enabled computer operating on Windows XP or 2000 with IE 6.0 can access our data center.
- How much digital coverage do you have?
Digital-capable devices are currently under development.
- How much analog coverage do you have?
Analog coverage represents 98% of the populated areas in North America.
- When is analog going away?
At this point, analog will be available until at least 2010. It will most likely be extended beyond that date because of rural area coverage requirements.
- How do we convert our analog to digital?
We don’t convert necessarily. We plan to start deploying dual-mode radios as they become available. However, we believe that in areas where analog exists today it most likely will exist for years to come.
- How much will it cost to convert each unit?
If for whatever reason the analog signal is eliminated and operation of the device is no longer possible, then we will replace those units at our cost.
- How much do software upgrades cost?
Software upgrades are included in the cost of the software. In most cases, no software is required.
- What is the annual maintenance fee for on-site servers?
That is dependent on the size on the installation. Typically maintenance costs represent 15% of initial software costs.
- Will AMD work in every location?
While coverage problems are rare, there may be isolated areas where the AMD will not not receive sufficient signal to operate.
- How will I know if it doesn't work?
You will know if the unit does not operate because you will not be able to initiate an event or receive indication that the event occurred.
- What do all the blinking lights mean?
Each unit has 3 lights which provide validation of electric power to the unit/battery, validation of cellular coverage, and indication of radio activity. The Power On and Service Available lights (red) must be steady in order for the unit to operate.
- Does the device have a current limiting option?
Yes, the Pre-Pay solution does provide a current limiting option which can be set individually by the utility at its discretion.
- Does the device work off of paging or cellular service?
The devices utilizes 2-way communication off of the cellular network, unlike 1-way paging technology.
- Is there an activation fee, and what is the monthly fee?
There is no activation fee, and monthly fees are dependant on usage for the customer. Typically, usage will fall well within allotted limits.
- Is the device pre-programmed with the cellular signal?
We have a patented technology that allows the unit to directly access the analog cellular control channel for communications.
- Does the device require the use of software to disconnect/reconnect, or can it be manually called or paged?
The CarinaPoint™ Solution is designed around ease and convenience. You can control and manage your devices from any internet-enabled PC, anywhere, anytime with no software required.
- Is the purchase of software required for the devices to properly function?
No software is required to use our devices.
- If so, please explain the software that is required, and the related costs?
No software required.
- Does the device work with all standard meters?
Yes, all standard 200 amp single phase meters.
- Is there a minimum order number?
No
