Huntsville, AL – July 6, 2005 — Bristol Tennessee Essential Services (BTES) has entered into an agreement that authorizes Carina Technology, Inc., a Huntsville-based company specializing in wireless technology for utility companies, to develop and deploy a device that enables BTES to utilize its fiber network for remote meter reading, disconnects/reconnects, power outage notification, customer voltage profile, customer load profile, demand-side management and pre-paid energy. Following a successful deployment, BTES anticipates installing these devices at all 31,596 of its electric meters.
“We had been looking for a company that had the ability to provide us an Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) total solution consistent with our fiber deployment and to do it within our projected budget. We are impressed with Carina’s capabilities in utility experience, product design and integration and are confident that this will be a successful venture,” said Dr. Mike Browder, general manager of BTES.
