Itron Founder Joins Carina
Bill C. Newell has joined Carina Technology, Inc. as Vice President of Business Development and will be spearheading the rollout of Carina's innovative approach to the prepayment of energy. He has relocated to Huntsville from San Jose, California.
A pioneer in electric metering technology, Mr. Newell was the founder of Itron, now the world's largest meter manufacturer. With over 25 years of experience with electric utilities, he has contributed in leadership roles with numerous other ventures both in the United States and abroad. Most notable was his role as Global Equities Corporation's financial liaison between Gasprom, the major energy supplier in Russian, and the world banking community.
Previous to Itron, Mr. Newell served as Director of the Optical Character Reading (OCR) division of Keytronic, Inc. where his duties included the set up and management of a national team of sales representatives who called on financial institutions and utilities. As Project Manager for Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), he was responsible for the fabrication of a microprocessor line. Mr. Newell also served as a Service Engineer and in sales support for IBM in the Los Angeles, CA area and served as the Project Manager for Solid State Radiation, a small start-up company that developed radiation detectors used on NASA space probes.
Mr. Newell received his Bachelors of Science in Physics from the University of Washington in 1960, and then furthered his studies at UCLA in the Master of Business program.
