Fiber For All the People?
Next-gen broadband applications have an obvious appeal for some consumers - businesses, gamers, teenagers - but what about everyone else? In this article, Mike comments on the importance of broadening the appeal of broadband.

Let's consider for a moment the consumer perspective of FTTX. A typical consumer may ask: What good does a limitless, state-of-the-art, cutting edge, next-gen FTTH broadband system actually give me? Why should I care how many bits or bytes of data I can upload or download or share or receive if all I really want to do is email my mother or maybe Google my old college roommate?
For the average consumer, this is likely the train of thought when asked to consider the benefits and possible adoption of advanced communication infrastructure technologies such as FTTH. And why shouldn't this be the case? As deployers, service provider, application vendors, and broadband proponents, isn't it our job to deliver compelling and relevant answers to these questions?
The growing availability of broadband to consumers has become a boon to applicaiton developers companies in recent years. While technologies in industries such as energy efficiency aren't exactly new, the reliability and throughput capability of broadband is taking the industry to another level.
