CarinaPoint™ Ethernet Metering Device (EMD)
CarinaPoint™ EMD is an information system interface device that resides in a collar base between the residential electric socket and the electric meter. This collar-based customer interface provides the utility with a variety of applications that not only improve service but reduce cost. In addition to traditional metering applications, our device creates a SCADA system from the customer’s home back to the utility.
How It Works
The CarinaPoint™ EMD requires access to a Wide Area Network (WAN) infrastructure such as Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH), Ethernet, Broadband Coax, GSM/GPRS Class 12, Wi-Fi 802.11b, or Broadband over Power Lines (BPL).
Installation at the home site is simple and takes between 5-10 minutes.
Once installed, the CarinaPoint™ EMD becomes the IP gateway which enables access to the electric meter and establishes the basis for a Local Area Network (LAN) through which the utility can immediately use a variety of applications including:

- Pre-Pay Metering
- Demand-Side Management
- Time-of-Use & Peak Pricing
- Voltage and Load Profiling
- Outage Management
- Home Automation
Additional Features
- CarinaPoint™ EMD is designed to provide safe external powering directly to the ONT to ensure that back up power to phone systems is intact in case of outages.
- In addition to the wireless LAN, the CarinaPoint™ EMD is a gateway for other broadband applications such as telephone, digital television, and high-speed Internet.
- Custom interfaces to current CIS, GIS, & OMS systems can be built to ensure seamless integration with the utility's own legacy systems.
- Our secure and encrypted CarinaXchange™ web-interface provides 24/7 access to database tools for controlling units. This easy to use interface requires no customer-side software and all data is stored on off-site servers.
- Numerous customized reporting functions including reliability reporting, meter tampering, voltage anomalies, etc.
